Membership
Since its founding in 1987, the IFPDA has grown beyond its five original members to number over 165 members in thirteen countries. Member galleries and dealers are expected to exhibit a high level of expertise, ethics, and professional integrity.
Joining the IFPDA
Election to membership takes into account years in business, the quality of art offered for sale, exhibitions and published catalogues as well as community service. New members are invited to join the Association by the Board of Directors after consultation with the entire membership.
To be considered for membership, a candidate must be recommended by a current IFPDA member and meet the following requirements for eligibility:
- A demonstrated business focus on or expertise in fine prints.
- Galleries and print publishers should be established for at least five years.
- Private dealers should be established for at least eight years.
- Ownership of a substantial portion of the works of art being offered for sale, rather than consigned by other dealers or collectors.
In addition to these requirements, the IFPDA considers: the quality and importance of the works represented or published by the candidate and, if these works are contemporary, whether the artists are of international or national importance and repute; a candidate’s presence in the community, including participation in art fairs, and their contribution to the field through the high quality of their inventory, exhibitions and catalogues; and a candidate’s demonstrated commitment to promoting knowledge of fine prints within the public sphere.
Nonprofit or university-affiliated print publishers are not currently eligible for membership.
